about
This is a draft song which I hope to add some cello to once I find a cellist. But feel free to listen anyway, especially if you are a bored cellist looking for a project.
You might guess that it's a lockdown song. You might also guess that I was working on something a bit Country at the same time as this. I think it treads a weird line between cheesy and depressing - that's a good thing, right?
lyrics
Jessica wakes up tired
the days are so long these days,
but too short,
too short to do anything.
The dishes are scraping the ceiling,
but she's got so many other things to do -
hard thinking
'bout past conversations.
Like a kid with a magnifying
glass on a sunny day
oh she knows,
she knows she's got such power.
If she could just focus on
one thing for more than just one day
she knows she could,
could set the world on fire.
She wants to take a shotgun to these walls -
all those intentions and the promises to herself.
You've got to hold on for tomorrow,
hold on tonight,
you've got to fill the silence before it fills you.
You've got to live on through the darkness
to make it to morning's light,
though you know at the tunnel's end
there are just more stations
and you're drowning in your past
your past conversations.
When the world opens up,
things will be different then,
things will be,
things will be possible.
New words and new meaning new her,
a chance to say something new,
to dispel all those past conversations.
But Jessica's hall's a highway
that just leads back to itself
and all those past conversations,
yeah, all those goddamn past conversations.
She wants to take a shotgun to these walls -
all those intentions and the promises to herself.
You've got to hold on for tomorrow,
hold on tonight,
you've got to kill the boredom before it kills you.
You've got to live on through the darkness
to make it to morning's light,
though you know at the tunnel's end
there are just more stations
You've got to hold on for tomorrow,
hold on tonight,
you've got to drink it down before it eats you up.
You've got to hang onto the clichés,
cause sometimes the clichés are right
though you know at the tunnel's end
there are just more stations
and you're drowning in your past
your past conversations.
yeah you're drowning in your past
your past conversations.

If you can see through moustaches, you might recognise me from one of my parallel identities - poet Angela Cleland,
novelist Cleland Smith, or mother-of-two Angela Smith.
The name Iron Wife stems from a cover of an Iron Maiden song I recorded for my husband.
If my music sounds a little bit homemade, that's because it is. It's just up here to stop it cluttering up my brain....more
